Kynren gets the Royal treatment

We were delighted to welcome to the Eleven Arches site His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester, KG, GVCO, SSI, GCStJ as part of his Royal visit to Bishop Auckland in March to see the developments at Auckland Castle and experience some of the magic behind Kynren.

Chief Executive Anne-Isabelle Daulon introduced the vision behind Kynren, the live action show that attracted more than 100,000 visitors during the first season in 2016. HRH The Duke of Gloucester was then given a taste of the scale of the spectacular from the perspective of the control room where, with the push of a button, he activated the rising of the Castle.

Whilst the scenery appeared as if by magic, the stage was brought to life by a four-horse Cavalry fly past to give The Duke a flavour of the level of horsemanship required for the show.

The Duke – who is first cousin to Her Majesty the Queen – was not only impressed with the magnificent effort of all our Archers who make Kynren happen but also, as a trained Architect, he was extremely interested in the complexity of how our scenery, special effects and hydraulics have been developed and incorporated into the show.

During his visit The Duke was also introduced to Creative Director, Steve Boyd; Deputy Executive Producer, Damien Boissinot; and Head of Cavalry, Anna Warnecke.
